The Dallas - Fort Worth area is an inland destination with no navigable waterways to the ocean. For that reason, only land and air-based transportation is available.
The Dallas - Fort Worth Metroplex is served by multiple airports including: Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW), Dallas Love Field (DAL), Fort Worth Alliance Airport (AFW) and Fort Worth Meacham International Airport (FTW). In addition to these, there are a number of smaller airfields.
Dallas / Fort Worth can be reached from other US cities by rail service from Amtrak. Local and regional rail service is provided by DART (Dallas Area Rapid Transit).
Bus services such as Greyhound connect Dallas / Fort Worth with other major cities. Local and regional bus services are also provided by DART and the Fort Worth Transportation Authority ("The T").
Though not as easily obtained as in some other US cities, taxi services can be called as needed. They are typically used to shuttle people to and from airports.
Due to the size and layout of the area, a motor vehicle is the most practical way to visit many attractions. However, car rental services are readily available, both at airports and as stand-alone locations throughout the area.
